According to police, a man was seriously injured in a car-pedestrian crash on February 5, 2013, in Newport Beach. The 51-year-old pedestrian, who has not been identified yet, was reportedly hit by a taxi when approaching the sidewalk at East Coast Highway and MacArthur Boulevard. The pedestrian was transported to Santa Ana’s Western Medical Center. He was in critical condition at the time of the report. Although his name has not been released, the driver of the taxi was reported to be a 54-year-old Santa Ana man. No further information was available about the driver or the taxi company, and police do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident. Police are investigating this accident still, and urge witnesses or others to contact the Newport Beach Police Department with any additional information. Unfortunately, car-pedestrian accidents are not uncommon. The injuries sustained by the pedestrian can be extremely serious or require long-term medical care. And, if a commercial vehicle—such as a taxi or delivery truck—is involved, it might be very difficult to obtain a fair settlement for your injuries. If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in a car-pedestrian accident, don’t wait until it’s too late to seek legal guidance.
